  • Overview

    BD is looking for talented undergrads pursuing engineering degrees to participate in our Co-Op program. Selected candidates will work with our R&D Engineers on exciting projects at our Covington, GA location.

    Summary of Position with General Responsibilities

    Under the close supervision of a R&D Engineer, this position is responsible for working with R&D Scientists/Engineers to perform basic laboratory research and routine laboratory activities.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Writes test protocols and reports.
    • Conducts basic product testing.
    • Assists in building prototype devices and fixtures
    • Researches and reviews clinical data for assigned projects.
    • Assists engineers with other product development activities.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Proficient in the use of a personal computer with intermediate level of keyboarding skills. Proficient in the use of MS Word and Excel. • Strong interpersonal skills required in the areas of verbal and written communications. • Good listening and assessment skills • Good questioning and problem-solving skills • Must be a self-starter. • Detail oriented and ability to organize large amounts of work and data. This includes the need for good documentation practices. • Plans effectively and team oriented.

    Education and/or Experience

    Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program majoring in an appropriate scientific or engineering field.

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, talk or hear.  The employee will sometimes be required to move around in manufacturing facility or meet with medical professionals in hospital environment.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.


    Some lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.

    Work Environment

    No special work environment conditions other than minimal exposure to manufacturing environment (i.e. noise, minimal heat and some chemical fume exposure), laboratory, and hospital settings.


    Operate and maintain laboratory test equipment and measurement instruments.
