    The Senior Manager of Packaging Engineering will be responsible to manage the Packaging Engineering group including resource planning, performance management and career development.

    Summary of Position with General Responsibilities

    This role is responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating all activities within Packaging Engineering, including project management and budgets, packaging support for the development/commercialization of new products and line extensions, and review of labeling artwork/graphics. Also, will provide packaging support to manufacturing and identify opportunities for new packaging concepts, materials and systems.

    Essential Job Functions

    Direct the resource planning to Packaging Engineers and Coordinators to support BD new product development and base business activities.

    • Develop quarterly and annual work plans to support business needs
    • Lead performance management and career development activities.
    • Develop and update resource plans to support Business Franchise needs

    Support new product team and line extension activities including:

    • Concept development
    • Project Plans/Schedules
    • Design reviews and design for manufacturability
    • Develop prototype packaging/tooling
    • ISO procedures – improvements and training

    Plan, coordinate and manage all activities to launch and commercialize new products and line extensions including:

    • Concept and development of packaging methods and processes
    • Coordination of all new tooling and equipment
    • Coordination and support of all new vendor tooling and artwork
    • Development and release of all new product and process documentation
    • Planning, ordering and coordination of all new component inventory
    • Qualification and validation of all new equipment, processes and operations
    • New product cost estimates for packaging
    • Preparation of requests for capital expenditure, Authorization for Expenditure - AFE(s)
    • Evaluation and recommendation of new materials
    • Support all pilot activities related to packaging

    Plan, coordinate and manage all packaging engineering activities to transfer new products and line extensions to manufacturing including:

    • Development and management for packaging requirements of the transfer plan
    • Development and release of all packaging documentation
    • Coordinate the transition of packaging component inventory
    • Equipment transfers and installation
    • Process validation and operator training

    Provide Packaging Engineering support to Manufacturing and other disciplines including:

    • AME & R&D
    • Outside Vendors
    • Purchasing
    • Quality Assurance/Quality Control
    • Regulatory Affairs
    • Other Bard Divisions (as required)
    • CIP Projects

    Basic Qualifications

    • Previous experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industries preferred.
    • Leadership/Management skills with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory role.
    • High level of written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong knowledge of package test methods, process validation, bar coding, and international standards.
    • Knowledge of FDA and functional requirements for Class I, II and Class III sterile, non-sterile, disposable and reusable devices.
    • Ability to conceptualize ideas, motivate and focus individuals and teams and drive projects through to completion on time and on budget.
    • Broad knowledge of properties for materials utilized in primary and secondary packaging, plus packaging methods and equipment.
    • Ability to travel up to 15%

    Education and/or Experience

    B.S. Degree in Packaging Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 8 years in packaging engineering, tooling and design in a regulated industry.
