  • Summary of Position with General Responsibilities

    Responsible for the general management of the Tempe facility to include the following functional areas:  Manufacturing, Sourcing/Materials Management, Scheduling, Inventory, Engineering, Production and Facility Maintenance, Safety, Environmental Compliance, Quality, Shipping and Receiving, Accounting, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and Compliance.


    Directly responsible for ensuring a robust and sustainable supply chain of product produce by 3rd party suppliers.


    The individual is responsible for the leadership of a plant staff and the development and execution of strategic and tactical objectives.  Primary focus is placed on the safety, quality, customer service, productivity, and cost reduction of the Tempe based operations and 3rd party suppliers of BPV.  #LI-SF1

    Essential Job Functions

    • Insure the development of technical resources/competencies to support manufacturing, sourcing processes and product development activities.
    • Responsible for the development and execution of divisional sourcing strategies and practices that deliver against strategic objectives of Global Operations.
    • Responsible for establishing a sustainable supply chain for all new and existing products manufactured at 3rd part suppliers. (Existing Products include- FMI: Dorado, Atlas Gold, Vaccess, Lavelle: Magnum Guns. Infus: Encore Markers, Probes and accessories. Ferrosan: Finesse Drivers and Probes. Adroit: Encore molded component and metals.
    • Responsible for inventory objectives and accomplishment of service level goals for the PTFE portfolio and Infus Medical. – this include component planning and inventory management of
    • As necessary participate in due diligence activities to evaluate / support acquisitions.
    • Provide leadership and direction to the Tempe operations organization. Establish and monitor quarterly and annual objectives for direct reports. Provide ongoing feedback regarding performance against objectives.
    • Assure the selection, development, and retention of high caliber talent. Implement succession-planning activities for all areas of responsibility.
    • Assure compliance of Division facilities to all appropriate Quality, Safety. Environmental and Financial Regulations.
    • Through the principles of “Lean Thinking” and “Six Sigma” foster an environment of continuous improvement in the areas of cost, quality, service and best manufacturing practices.
    • Other functions and special assignments that may be assigned
    • Supervisor/Management Responsibilities:

      • This role will supervise various BPV personnel.

      Fiscal/Budgetary Responsibilities:

      • Directly responsible for the Tempe monthly financial RGL report which covers PTFE manufacturing as well as $40M in 3rd l party material spend.
      • Responsible for developing and executing CIP program that delivers at least 100 basis points in cost reduction annually.
      • Responsible for the development and administration of Tempe manufacturing budget ($59M).
      • Responsible for the management of 3.5M in raw material inventory.


      Customer and Key Contacts:

      All parties within the division and Bard Corporate.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Ability to interface effectively with all levels and functions of the Bard organization. 
    • Excellent verbal and written communications
    • Strong working knowledge in Procurement and Materials Management. Ability to understand and manage technical processes.
    • Good understanding of GMP, ISO, OSHA & EPA requirements
    • Ability to build high performing teams and provide coaching and mentoring for staff and key personnel.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Strong working knowledge of standard and activity-based cost accounting
    • Proven understanding and application of sound managerial practices that support Bard’s values of Quality, Integrity and Service

    Education and/or Experience

    • Minimum BS\BA. Advanced degree strongly preferred.
    • 8 years direct experience in medical device manufacturing with hands-on experience in multiple disciplines.
    • Proven track record of implementing change, driving cost improvements and increasing efficiencies.
    • Prior experience in a Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing environment.

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools, controls and office equipment.  The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel or crouch.
