    BD Urology and Critical Care a BD Company is seeking to fill the position of Packaging Engineer in Covington, GA.  Bard Medical has joined BD together, advancing the world of health. 

    Summary of Position with General Responsibilities

    This position is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and developing packaging for BMD’s product lines. Actively participates on New Product Development Teams. Recommends and purchases materials and components used in design requirements. Prepares and maintains appropriate documentation in accordance with policies and procedures. Communicates with engineers, technicians, and draft persons.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Conceptualization of initial design options, execution of design select, and modifications of packaging.
    • Recommends appropriate packaging equipment to meet packaging design and material requirements.
    • Converts customer needs into new product concept solutions.
    • Develops prototypes of concepts and subcomponent mechanisms.
    • Designs and develops tooling and fixturing required to support new products and line extensions.
    • Utilizes design concepts and analysis techniques, including but not limited to:
      • Failure Mode Analysis            
      • Finite Element Analysis & modeling
      • Geometric Dimensioning/       
      • Statistical Analysis
      • Tolerancing Analysis             
      • Stress/Strain Analysis
    • Works with vendors and customers to identify appropriate materials and components to meet packaging requirements.
    • Analyzes concepts to ensure that the specifications (Product Performance Specifications) meet the customers’ requirement.
    • Ability to detail designs to ensure manufacturability; proper dimensioning and tolerances stack-up analysis.  Recommends modifications as required.
    • Establishes and maintains appropriate documentation of activities in accordance with existing policies and procedures (Divisions, Corporate, and Regulatory compliance)
    • Actively participates on New Product Development teams and Design Reviews.

    Basic Qualifications

    •  Demonstrated ability to design innovative packaging/mechanisms
    •  Proficient in the use of a personal computer with intermediate keyboarding skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Microsoft Project, and various statistical software packages.


    Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge

    • Willingness to learn design control, design of experiments and validation techniques relevant to this position
    • Good oral and written communication. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional/technical journals, scientific literature, procedures, and governmental regulations
    • Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence
    • Ability to communicate well with individuals at all levels of the organization.

    Education and/or Experience

    • BS in Packaging Engineering or related field of study preferred
    • 2-3 years experience
    • Medical device experience a plus
    • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.  The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle and feel.  The employee must be able to lift or move boxes of product/raw materials and pieces of small equipment.  Specific vision abilities required by for this job.


    Work Environment

    This position works in a laboratory setting and has occasional exposure to chemicals and high heat.
