    Vascular Access Devices, a sub-business unit of Medication Delivery Solutions, focuses on developing, manufacturing, and distributing high-quality medical devices used by clinicians throughout the worldwide healthcare industry to access a patient’s vasculature. Our devices assist in the delivery of chemotherapy, blood products, antibiotics, and nutrition.

    Summary of Position with General Responsibilities

    This position is responsible for the implementation, operation, and coordination of environmental, health, safety sustainability programs for the Salt Lake City facility to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations and to ensure a safe working environment for employees. This position will also have other duties and responsibilities as needed such as: plant security, outside service vendor management, sustainability programs and new hire orientation training.

    Essential Job Functions

    The following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the incumbent(s) in this position and are not all-inclusive.  The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position.

    • Implements appropriate safety programs, procedures, and inspection plans. Creates and maintains safety awareness through continued communications by means of discussions, posters, booklets, films, articles, etc. Fosters a culture of safety as a top priority and all associate accountability/ engagement.
    • Assure compliance with the hazardous waste management program, insuring proper disposal, storage and marking; participates in the required annual training. Coordinates the medical and biohazard waste program.
    • Assure compliance with local/state/federal law, i.e., OSHA, EPA, DOT, FDA, KEMA and State Regulations, etc. Conduct regulatory evaluations of the site.
    • Implements the hazard communication program (HAZCOM), including MSDS maintenance, program updating, and training.
    • Conducts monthly safety inspections and maintains company safety supplies. Identifies and controls unsafe working conditions/practices.
    • Team leader of the Safety Committee and the Emergency Response Teams; responsible for the coordination of all committee functions.
    • Maintain the lock-out/tag-out program. Provides input on machine/safeguarding, environmental safety, engineering/administrative control, and personal protective equipment.
    • In conjunction with HR, coordinates facility security issues, i.e., fire alarm, burglar alarm, badges, security guards, etc.
    • Tracks employees Workmen Compensation cases.
    • Perform safety training in new hire orientation and annual safety reminder course.
    • Manage the “BEST” corporate safety management software.
    • Prepares status reports and analyses for Management, as required.
    • Provide metrics and data to ensure short term and long term strategic actions being taken to risk mitigate and ensure continuously evolving/ improving environment for health and safety of all of our associates and the community.
    • Conducts investigations into accidents and work-related injuries and illnesses. Identify Root Causes and Analyze trends. Implement corrective actions geared toward preventing future similar incidents.
    • Develop and manage Chemical Hygiene Plan for laboratory activities.
    • Manage sustainability programs to meet Corporate objectives.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Safety, Facilities or Industrial Hygiene.
    • Four (4) plus years’ experience in the implementation of environmental and occupational safety programs.
    • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT and State Regulations.
    • Strong training skills.
    • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills.

    Preferred qualifications include:

    • Chemical Hygiene requirements in an R&D Laboratory Setting.
    • Knowledge of or experience with Ergonomics.
    • Knowledge of Environmental regulations.
    • Experience directly related in Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability practices in a manufacturing, lab and office environments.
    • Experience with implementation of site certification programs such as ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001, OSHA VPP

    Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge

    • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and State Regulations.
    • Knowledge of Federal Guidelines pertaining to "Right-To-Know”.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
    • Good computer skills, i.e., database management.
    • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization from hourly to exempt employees.
    • Good presentation and training skills.

    Physical Demands

    This position is in an office, manufacturing, and laboratory environment and requires the incumbent to sit, stand and perform general office functions. The incumbent may also be required to lift up to twenty five pounds occasionally. The incumbent may be required to stand for extended periods of time. Bending, stooping and reaching are also frequently required.
