    BD Urology and Critical Care a BD Company is seeking to fill the position of Sr. Engineer, Packaging in Covington, GA.  Bard Medical has joined BD together, advancing the world of health. 

    Summary of Position with General Responsibilities

    This position is responsible for Conceptualizing, designing, and developing packaging for BD’s product lines.  Actively participates on New Product Development Teams.  Analyses designs and recommends changes, if necessary.  Recommends and purchases materials and components used in design requirements.  Prepares and maintains appropriate documentation in accordance with policies and procedures.  Direct the activities of engineers, technicians, and draft persons.


    Essential Job Functions

      • Conceptualization of initial design options, execution of design select, and modifications of packaging.
      • Recommends appropriate Packaging equipment to meet packaging design and material requirements.
      • Converts customer needs into new product concept solutions.
      • Develops prototypes of concepts and subcomponent mechanisms.
      • Designs and develops tooling and fixturing required to support new products and line extensions.
      • Utilizes design concepts and analysis techniques, including but not limited to:

      - Failure Mode Analysis             - Finite Element Analysis & modeling

      - Geometric Dimensioning/        - Statistical Analysis

      - Tolerancing Analysis              - Stress/Strain Analysis

      • Works with vendors, consultants, and customers to identify appropriate materials and components to meet packaging requirements.
      • Analyzes concepts to ensure that the specifications (Product Performance Specifications) meet the customers’ requirement.
      • Ability to detail designs to ensure manufacturability; proper dimensioning and tolerances stack-up analysis. Recommends modifications as required.
      • Establishes and maintains appropriate documentation of activities in accordance with existing policies and procedures (Divisions, Corporate, and Regulatory compliance)
      • Prepares and distributes project status reports on a regular basis.
      • Actively participates on New Product Development teams and Design Reviews.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Demonstrated ability to design innovative products/mechanisms.
    • Demonstrated ability in analyzing designs; experience in various analysis tools and techniques such as: Failure Mode Analysis (FMA), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Geometric Dimensioning/Tolerancing, Stress/Strain Analysis, and statistical analysis.
    • Proficient in the use of a personal computer with intermediate keyboarding skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Microsoft Project, and various statistical software packages.

    Education and/or Experience

    • B.S. in Packaging Engineering preferred. Mechanical Engineering is an alternate.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
    • Five (5) to eight (8) years of packaging engineering experience, preferably in the medical device industry.
    • Past experience managing packaging projects using semi-automated packaging equipment including form, fill, and seal and flow wrap machinery is preferred.
    • Previous experience in the design of a variety of products, materials, mechanisms, components, and processes.

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.  The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle and feel.  The employee must be able to lift or move boxes of product/raw materials and pieces of small equipment.  Specific vision abilities required by this job.

    Work Environment

    This position works in a laboratory setting and has occasional exposure to chemicals and high heat.  #LI-CW1
