    Summary of Position with General Responsibilities

    Responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of processes, procedures, and systems to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations and occupational health and safety standards.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Manage plant safety projects and initiatives.
    • Maintain current files of all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and standards concerning environmental protection and occupational safety and health.
    • Develop, implement, and oversee procedures and programs to ensure federal and state compliance with OSHA, EPA, and the DEC.
    • Conduct investigations of all work-related accidents/injuries. Develop reports and information to advise departments of trends in injuries, unsafe conditions, and proper safety procedures, that may result in reduction of accidents.
    • Coordinate the facility safety program including safety meetings and general awareness.
    • Develop and conduct environmental and safety training programs to meet all regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain worker’s compensation/hepatitis B records.
    • Support Human Resources with analysis, recording, and reporting of work-related injuries and illnesses.
    • Maintain facility chemical inventories and associated Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
    • Member/ Leader of the facility safety committee: provide guidance for continuous improvement.
    • Review new manufacturing processes to assess compliance with environmental and safety standards.
    • Audit facilities periodically for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, corporate policies, and divisional procedures; issue reports on status of compliance.
    • Manage direct reports / EHS Engineer.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Project management experience.
    • Experience with applicable GMP and ISO regulations and knowledge of federal and state environmental and occupational safety and health regulations (EPA, OSHA, and DEC).
    • Experience managing direct reports.

    Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge

    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Solid computer skills.

    Education and/or Experience

    • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the implementation of environmental and occupational safety and health programs.
    • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent safety/safety engineering experience.

    Physical Demands

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands or arms (to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls). The employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
    • The employee must be able to wear personal protective equipment required to perform this job safely.

    Work Environment

    Occasional exposure to potential for minor injury or other health hazard requiring some precaution.
