The Packaging Lab Technician is located at BD Bard in Covington, Georgia.

Summary of Position with General Responsibilities

Provides support for the pakcaging design and development laboratory

Essential Job Functions

  • Execute test methods and protocols in the evaluation of medical device packaging materials, components and systems
  • Author laboratory reports
  • Ensure efficient upkeep of laboratory
  • Support lab admin duties
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ISO 11607 and ISO 13485 preferred
  • Knowledge of ISTA and ASTM package performance test methods preferred
  • Knowledge of vibration, shock and compression test theory and equipment preferred
  • Basic understanding of good laboratory practices.
  • Quality focused

Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge



  • Proficient experience with MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Able to comprehend and use computer controlled laboratory equipment.




Able to organize and clearly write business correspondence and technical reports and to communicate well with individuals at all levels of the organization.




Knowledge of package engineering calculations and fundamental statistics




  • Able to read and comprehend company procedures, packaging specifications and drawings, industry test methods, government regulations, technical journals and scientific literature.
  • Able to interpret and define test requirements from individuals who are not packaging experts.
  • Able to seek out information from external sources in order to expand knowledge base.


Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Science/Engineering. Packaging Engineering or Technology preferred.
  • Package testing experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
  • ISTA CPLP technician certification is a plus.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to regularly lift and move containers of up to 25 pounds and occasionally of up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have sufficient dexterity to use precision measuring instruments and conduct manual tests.
