The Glens Falls Operation is known as Bard’s Technology Center and is Bard’s largest domestic manufacturing facility employing approximately 700 in a three shift operation. The Glens Falls Operation manufactures over 20 different product lines serving all Bard Divisions

Summary of Position with General Responsibilities


Under minimal supervision, provides trouble shooting, repair maintenance, equipment operator training and installation support for new and existing manufacturing equipment as well as assists in the design and development of new equipment, tooling and processes. Assist supervisor in maintaining a safe, efficient and quality operation per company policies and procedures, excluding supervision responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Operates and maintains all machine shop equipment, including lathes and milling machines (with or without digital readouts), surface grinder, drill presses, arbor presses, sheet metal press-brakes and shears, welding (stick and tig), brazing and silver soldering, band-saw, power hacksaw, belt sanders and all other miscellaneous tooling used in conjunction with this equipment.
  2. Troubleshoots and repairs all plant facility and production equipment, including pneumatic and mechanical controls, tools, appliances, etc.
  3. Designs or makes significant contributions to the design of production and plant equipment, new processes and procedures.
  4. Develops and fabricates plant tooling equipment, controls, and systems based on concepts, sketches, and/or verbal instructions from facilities engineers.
  5. Manages multiple large projects at once, including coordination of outside and inside resources to insure project schedules are maintained.
  6. Utilizes OEE and other equipment breakdown trending tools to reduce downtime and improve machine efficiencies.
  7. Drafts fabrication drawings and schematics for new and existing equipment.
  8. Develops microprocessor controls and programs as applicable to plant facility and production equipment.
  9. Develops and performs preventive maintenance.
  10. Ensure smooth transition and communication between shifts.
  11. Provide employee (operator) training on machine operation, troubleshooting, machine set up and preventative maintenance.
  12. Provides developmental training to Mech Tech I’s and Mech Tech II’s.

Basic Qualifications

  • Possesses a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair the most complicated production machines.
  • Must be able to read and understand all forms of engineering drawings.
  • Mechanical ability to recognize and troubleshoot all types of drive and feed systems.
  • Flexible regarding work and shift assignments.
  • Experience in the use of all machine shop equipment and the ability to machine parts to high tolerance requirements.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of properties of materials

Education and/or Experience

Requires an Associate’s Degree and five year’s experience or a minimum of ten year’s experience, in mechanical technology, and/or computer technology.

Physical Demands

Occasionally requires light physical effort as in periods of prolonged standing, sitting at machines or work tables or bending, stooping or reaching and/or occasional lifting of light items (i.e. up to 30 lbs). May require some exposure to chemicals used in manufacturing processes.

Work Environment

Some minor physical inconvenience or discomfort occasionally present in the work situation (moderate noise, disagreeable odors, etc.). OR occasional exposure to minor injury or other health hazard requiring some precaution.
