Summary of Position with General Responsibilities

The Strategic Sourcing Analyst will manage, shape, and drive our sourcing strategies and supplier management efforts, as well as run day-to-day purchasing for a select basket of our released-to-market medical devices. The Strategic Sourcing Analyst will work in coordination with multiple cross functional teams (engineering, quality, legal, etc.) to identify and capture cost savings, resolve quality/delivery issues, and address critical supplier disruptions.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform site purchasing for a basket of finished goods from both domestic and international contract manufacturers and OEMs.
  • Communicate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and supplier performance to Bard expectations.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain, Finance, and Supplier Quality organizations to ensure suppliers are meeting Bard needs. Acts as primary point of contact for Bard in supplier communications.
  • May be assigned to work closely with R&D / New Product Development organization in supporting early stage development agreements and sourcing efforts for concept and feasibility phases of development.
  • Participate in idea generation of cost savings projects for both direct and indirect spend.
  • Identify cost savings opportunities through process and/or design improvement.
  • Could act as project leader/owner on Sourcing related projects to help drive cost reductions (direct/indirect), improved supply chain, and new product introduction.  As the sourcing project owner, will represent sourcing function in discussions with other stakeholders.
  • Gain approval and commitment from all team members and stake holders to the strategy and timeline and then execute accordingly.
  • Provide presentational information needed for Operations Staff Meetings, BOD, and Stakeholder reviews.  Able to give full or informal report outs at a moment’s notice.

Basic Qualifications

  • Driver and Goal Orientated:  Must quickly identify the tasks needed to support the dynamic changes of the various projects and create the necessary actions within the Sourcing/Procurement organizations and stakeholders.
  • Clear Communicator:  Strong written, verbal, and listening skills that map to all levels of the organization from team members to Senior Management.  Able to develop and present information needed at all levels of management. Able to analyze projects as it relates to Sourcing/Procurement and communicate issues/delays in timeline. 
  • Organized (self and others). Demonstrated experience in project management best practices, processes and tools. Strong decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Comfortable with Ambiguity: Comfortable navigating ambiguous situations with limited direction. Possesses a positive questioning attitude, able and willing to dive into the why. Ability to self-manage high-pressure situations and deadlines.

Education and/or Experience

  • BS degree required. Supply Chain, Finance and/or Engineering degree preferred.
  • MBA preferred.
  • 3-6 years of procurement, business operations, and/or supply chain experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in current purchasing best practices and skilled at negotiations with suppliers.
  • Strong working knowledge of materials management processes and best practices that impact cost savings, category management, and site purchasing.
  • Experienced reviewing and drafting development, supply, and service agreements. Have understanding of key standard legal terms and constructs. Experienced interfacing and working with corporate attorneys.
  • Experience working in a purchasing / sourcing role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Project / program management experience.
  • Experience with JDE or similar system is desirable.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools, controls and office equipment. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear.The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel or crouch.
