Summary of Position with General Responsibilities

Responsible for analysis of New Business Development (NBD) opportunities identified by the Director, NBD. This position will identify and conduct analysis utilizing all available data sources. This position requires the aptitude to gain significant knowledge in the medical device industry: industry developments and data, clinician needs and drivers, products and technologies, development and small cap companies, and competitors. Must demonstrate ability to conduct assessment of a target's organizational, financial, technical, and functional value. Must be capable to complete a comprehensive initial analysis of a public or private target. The incumbent must demonstrate the capability to provide sound advice to BPV's NBD team.

 

The incumbent will be responsible for management of due diligence information and data during the due diligence phase ofNBD's deal. This role is vital to ensuring that each function has rapid quality access to the information and data pertaining to their functional review prior to an acquisition.

 

This position interfaces with Marketing, Finance, division management, and corporate NBD, and contributes analysis vital to the assessment, negotiation strategy, and tactics of BPV's deals.

 

This position contributes to NBD's mission to bring external technologies, products and businesses into BPV. The quality of the analysis this position is responsible for impacts BPV's capability to conduct through screenings, assessment and due diligence on external opportunities. This position analyzes new business development opportunities for Bard Peripheral Vascular. The performance of this function has significant revenue impact. The incumbent must be able to investigate a potential product, product line or investment to ensure its viability at Bard Peripheral Vascular. This involves high quality analysis and effective teamwork.

Essential Job Functions

The following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the incumbent in this position and are not all-inclusive. The omission of a specific duty or

  1. Contributes to BPV's execution of the entire BD Process, from investigation, assessment, negotiation, due diligence~ to closing and integration.
  2. Reviews initial company information and data and completes an analysis of this against BPV's screening criteria. Works closely with the Associate Directors to complete the screen and investigation, and participates in the initial conference calls and meetings between the NBD Team and the companies. 
  3. Manages NBD's Deal Tracking System, which details companies, products, and new externally generated ideas, and accounts for the phase and status of each.
  4. Prepares the initial monthly NBD report from the Tracking System, and obtains input and updates from the Associate Directors and Director for the completion of the report.
  5. Conducts sufficient review with functional group interaction of opportunities identified or assigned. Reaches a recommendation and identifies next steps.
  6. Contributes to NBD's investigation and evaluation of opportunities to assess the values proposition, risks, and benefits of a new business opportunity. Contributes to NBD's formal proposals to BPV's management and to corporate.
  7. Based on external analysis, is expected to make recommendations to the NBD Director for new opportunity targets.

Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge

  1. Effective research skills. Ability to rapidly assimilate a diverse amount of information and the capability to contribute to a business plan to support acquisitions.
  2. Proficient with financial statements, competitive analysis valuations and functional assessments. Computer skills are essential including proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, as well as proprietary due diligence database software systems such as Intralinks.
  3. Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  4. Self-starter, motivated, and seeks a challenge.
  5. Ability to network business sources for ongoing business development programs and projects.
  6. Ability to contribute to BPV's formal and informal teams to complete relevant phases of the NBD process.
  7. Effective writing and presenting skills.
  8. Must be able to analyze business relevancy of the deal-related information and data and communicate issues to the NBD team, and at times as appropriate, to others within the BPV team.

Education and/or Experience

  • A Bachelors Degree is required-MBA is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years experience in a market or financial analysis role, such as market
  • research.
  • A high level communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools, controls and office equipment.  The employee frequently is required to talk and hear.The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel or crouch. 

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be in an open cubicle environment. Candidate must be able to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
