The Accounting Analyst position requires an experienced accountant to perform moderately complex accounting activities relating to maintenance of complete and accurate general ledger accounts, financial statements, and managerial reports.  This position creates journal entries, acts as a liaison between centralized A/P function and local finance, and ensures compliance with Company policies. Additionally, this position is responsible for completing special projects as assigned.

Essential Job Functions

  • Ensure financial statement accuracy by reconciling account balances, including inter-company accounts and creating journal entries within tight month-end deadlines
  • Interface with Shared Service A/P, ensuring accurate account coding, purchase order application, and appropriate invoice approval levels are met.
  • Analyze monthly financial results compared to budget, prior year, and forecast to ensure financials are accurately stated and provide variance explanations.
  • Complete audit and tax requests and the monthly accounting close.
  • Prepare capital appropriation requests by providing accurate capital investment calculations of IRR, breakeven and net present value in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Ensure proper approvals are obtained on capital asset request forms prior to their purchase and maintain accurate fixed asset records.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to employees on accounting procedures.
  • Identify areas for process improvements and assist in implementing changes.
  • Assist with development of accounting policies and procedures in all areas of responsibility and ensure controls are adequately designed to achieve control objectives.
  • Interface with other Bard divisions and Corporate.
  • Ensure compliance with internal control requirements and policies and procedures.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external customers who have questions related to Accounting.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency needed, including the ability to create and manipulate data, create pivot tables, and perform complex calculations.
  • Take initiative and be proactive in addressing issues.
  • Good organizational skills, including close attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a proactive manner under tight deadlines.
  • The ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers in a business-like and professional manner.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of various intricacies of the accounting processes, and how the accounting activities interrelate to the company’s operational and financial processes.
  • The ability to work effectively in a high growth environment and a rapidly changing organization.
  • The ability to demonstrate conscientiousness, dependability and commitment to the role, team and company.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills required.
  • Must be flexible, with an ability to work in an independent, pro-active manner, and with a team.

Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience using Hyperion
  • Experience in preparing sales and use tax returns.
  • Financial statement preparation
  • Experience with Concur and expense report processing.

Education and/or Experience

  • Education: 4 year degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of general ledger monthly close activities, with a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to manipulate tools, controls and office equipment. Work may involve continuous computer use with repetitive motion to wrists, hands and fingers. The employee frequently is required to see, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to bend, lift, reach or stoop.
