Bard Medical is looking for an innovative leader to fill the Associate Director, R&D Software & Systems position. This role is located in our Louisville, Colorado Design Center for the Bard Medical Division of C. R. Bard.

Summary of Position with General Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned and proven leader of functional and cross-functional teams, having a proven track record of effectively working at all levels of the organization. A medical device experienced R&D leader versed in all aspects of systems engineering including: requirements definition, system architecture, design tradeoffs, technical analysis, verification, and risk assessment. The candidate will have worked on multiple product development programs from concept through commercialization designing and developing innovative products and platforms.  

Essential Job Functions

  • Effectively work cross-functionally leading teams to develop product requirements, specifications, verification testing protocols, traceability, and product documentation in accordance with US FDA, international medical agencies, CE, UL, etc.
  • Coordinate the pipeline initiatives for identified areas. Work with team leaders and team members to ensure pipeline initiatives are satisfied. Cross-functional and Matrix responsibility for core team members and support team members
  • Successfully and effectively lead teams in performing system level architecture design, functional decomposition to subsystem requirements, hardware/software tradeoffs, and interface definition
  • Provide rigorous technical expertise and develop teams in design reviews, assessing/evaluating engineering and manufacturing design changes, and investigating field issues
  • Support IP landscaping, competition benchmarking, advanced development projects, and product roadmap development
  • Establish functional competence in preparing documentation for medical device design projects, communicating with internal regulatory affairs personnel to support global clearances & approval
  • Set the standard for other Engineers and provides leadership and direction for the growth and improvement of the department and the company.

Basic Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Sr. Manager of Research & Development or higher.
  • Previous experience in directing the activities of experienced Engineers and Technicians.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the medical community
  • Proven ability to interface with various levels of the organization.
  • Must be a self-starter.
  • Detail oriented and ability to organize large amounts of work and data.
  • Have effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with little supervision.

Education and/or Experience

  • BS in Electrical/SW Engineering, MS degree preferred
  • 10+ years full product development lifecycle experience; 5+ years leading teams, functional and/or cross-functional
  • DFSS, PDP, DFM certified and/or broad and deep experience preferred

Work Environment

No special work environment conditions other than minimal exposure to manufacturing environment, laboratory, and hospital settings.

The position requires travel 10-20% of the time.
